One I Didn't Like on Thursday

Happy Thursday

Have you every scrapped a layout and completely HATED it?  This is how I feel about this layout!LOL!  I always start off with a sketch that I make and it looked great on paper- the concept was good and I like the paper that I picked out.  It is the Celebration line from Authentique.  But something happened when I put it all together.  I mean the layout is o.k. but I am not wild about it.

What do you do when the layout doesn't come out like you thought?  Since this is a layout just for me and my family I plan on doing NOTHING!  I mean all my layouts can't be awesome - right?  Do you redo your layouts if you don't like them?  I never have and with other commitments I don't think I am?  I just wanted to see what everyone else does I guess.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.   I will be back tomorrow with a new project.  See you then! Have a wonderful and crafty day!

if im not pleased with my layout I just finish it and move on! I do put it in our album, i dont throw it away. But sometimes theres a layout that just heckles me on the table and I get frustrated but then I just force myself to finish it fast and just put it away :-)

First of all, you should not hate this layout! It's gorgeous and probably one of my favorites of yours. :P

When I absolutely hate a layout I put it into my "hate it" pile. (Yes, I have a whole pile). I come back to the pile about a week later and sort through it. Some layouts I end up keeping because they end up not being as bad as I thought they were. Others I decide just didn't make the cut - and I salvage what embellishments and photos I can off of it and then redo the entire thing.

I think that sometimes we just get too critical of our creations and we have to stop and think why we are scrapbooking anyway...to preserve those memories which you have done!

I have ones I don't like too. In the beginning, I would redo them. I'm talking they were white paper and a few stickers, seriously bad Mary Pat! Now, if I don't care for them, I just go ahead and put them in my book. I don't have time :)

I love the papers you used on this and all the photos you fit in!

I totally understand! That happens to be more than I'd care to admit! Sometimes other people end up liking them more than I do, though! LOL! You do fabulous work and I like your approach toward having one you don't love quite as much! These are some fun photos!

I like it!!! But, that being said...if I realize while I am making it, before it is finished, I change it. If I realize after I am totally done... I leave it :)

When I hate a layout...I usually redo it. Yep! Can't be opening my album every time and hating what I see. But I will say that I do leave alone those layouts that may "bug" me for some odd reason. No sense going after those with a vengeance!! But those I hate I usually can identify what I don't like- like putting busy photos with busy paper or a busy layout...something about them just won't jive with my brain. It looks like chaos to me so they do get redone!!

I know your pain, Mary Pat. I've been making too many layouts I don't like lately. :) I just keep on working on it until I'm happy. The one I have posted on my blog today was redone (before anything was adhered) about six times. LOL! I think we are all our own worst critic when it comes to thinking what a fantastic page is.

Fun layout! I think it turned out great but I know what you mean about not loving the way a layout turns out.

Like everyone else, I've felt the same way. I'm not crazy about every single layout or card I make ... but I go on and put it in the album. I figure they can't all be winners, and it also shows the growth of our talents! :)

When I finish a layout I don't like, I put it in my album and forget about it. There are far too many pages in my future that need to get done to focus on one I don't like. And sometime I'll go back and look at a layout I didn't like initially and kinda like it!

I think this layout is great...it really is a fun layout...I hope that it will grow on you...your layouts are always so fun...But I understand...I have been there...

Fun 2-pager! I love how you mixed the hand-written journaling with stickers! I know how you feel when things don't seem to come together. This happens to me all the time. I think we are our own toughest critics. I usually don't redo the layouts I'm not crazy about as the memory is preserved, which is my main objective when scrapping.

I love your layout! Since I am not an expert sketch planner (one of my weakest scrapbooking skills)I end up hating a lot of my layouts, so whether or not I redo them depends on whether or not I LOVE the photo. If the photo is one of my favorites I usually will redo the layout, if not, I let it be! Great question, and I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that hates her layouts. Love Penny

I've had this happen to me to, I do not redo them as a rule, however I have been known to go back and add to them if I figure out what was missing per se. But, give yourself a mental hug, and let it go! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

Cute layout! I don't re-do mine, either. Or Over the years, I would constantly be redoing pages.

Fun page! I almost never redo a page. If it tells the story I wanted to tell, then that's good enough for me

Going to have to go with everyone else and say that I live with what I've made and stick it in the scrapbook. My motto is, if it gets the story across to my kiddos then I've done my job!

Don't be so hard on yourself! I love the look of your layout and all of the pics you got on it!

It's a good layout..definitely don't redo.

I like your layout! But I have made ones that I just don't like before. I usually just leave them as they are. And one that I thought I hated when I made it, I actually like now that some time has passed - and by "some time" I mean almost three years!

I think your layout is perfectly great, but I do know that feeling. You're right: not every LO can be your favorite. I have redone layouts if I feel inspired to do so. If I really love the pics, I want to really love the page too. But you're right: there's no chance of ever catching up, lol.

I have done that. But I think your layout looks great. You can't really scrap Chuck E Cheese's without a lot of busy-ness on the page! lol

Tracy said...

I am trying to figure out what you don't like about it.
I know it is a bit busy, but these photos and the place you were at is busy, so I think this is a great layout.
As for re-doing a page, I am lucky to get one or two layouts done a year now, I would be going backwards if I did, lol.

I can say a good bit of the time, my creations don't come out like I envisioned it! I still post and someone else will truly enjoy it if it's a card I have made. It's rare for people to get "snail mail" these days, so to receive a handmande treasure is usually appreciated even if the maker didn't care for it. The receiver never knows that...ha.

Your layout is wonderful and I would have never guessed you HATED it! I like it a lot and displays the activity perfectly to preserve those memories.

i know exactly what you means when a layout don't turn out the way you would like it. I sometime put it aside so i can figure out what i don't like about it. sometime it just need a simple changes such as if the paper is really busy, it may need a solid colors to ground it bit, or add inking to edgeing, or just simply change out embellishments. I'm trying to figure out what you don't like about it. if maybe you think your pictures look lost, maybe a solid cs behind the pictures might help and see if you like that better. that is only thing that pop in my head is that pictures need a solid color. hope that helps.
