Monday Catching up with Birthdays

Happy Monday

How was your weekend?  Well, on Friday of last week hubby and I moved 16 huge tables, 32 chairs, and 36 desks from my old room to my new room.  EVERY muscle in my body hurt Friday night and Saturday.  It was terrible.  I know a lot of asked why do I have to move these items. The reason is a bit complicated--skip reading in you are not interested LOL!!
Ohio funds schools via tax levies on their property.  This is a horrible way to fund schools because people don't want their property taxes to go up and they vote NO.  Soooooo our district is facing a 6 million dollar deficit.  Our district is the 7th largest in the state of Ohio and we laid off close to 200 teachers last year.  So the maintenance staff was also cut and there are just not enough people to move furniture.  So the teachers have to do it!
Saturday we went to my mother in laws for a family party and then Sunday I scrapped just for me!!  I do not scrap chronologically but I really don't like to be more than a year behind.  I went through all my lists of layouts to scrap and I noticed I forgot these wonderful photos of Jack blowing out his candles.  I can't believe my boy is going to be 7 in just 3 weeks.  So I got out my fave Jillibean Soup and got busy!  For this layout I used the calendar piece of the Spotted Owl Soup and built my page around that.  I love the banner!

Everything is Jillibean Soup

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I will be back tomorrow with a new project.  See you then.  Have a wonderful and crafty day!

Public schools in Ohio are on the same level as many small private Christian schools...no budget for many luxuries like maintenance staff! Many times we teachers moved desks, chairs, bookcases, etc. so I feel your pain! Glad it's over and you can move on to things like this sweet birthday layout. Great Jillibean stuff!! The photos are cute too:)

Oh, MP, my back is hurting just thinking about moving all that heavy classroom stuff. Your DH is a keeper!

Your page looks GREAT. That spotted owl line is one of my favorites. Super cute pics. I am behind on birthday photos too. I was just staring at some on my computer over the weekend and they were laughing back at me!

I didn't see your email address on your blog. I wanted to contact you about the design you asked about. My email is izzybee99 at yahoo.

Cute layout!!
And what a shame about your district!
You are right that it is a terrible way to fund schools.
The district I first worked in had this issue. The residents were primarily senior citizens and most of them voted no time and time again because they didn't want their taxes raised and didn't have children in the district.
It was a real struggle!

Such a cute page!
My niece spent the past week and over $300, getting her new classroom ready. Teachers do so much more behind the scenes work than anyone realizes! Hope your muscles have recovered!

I'm glad your husband was able to help you move the tables and such. In New York, schools were funded by taxes too, and it was always voted down. In the high school, they used to pull all the seniors who were already 18 out of class and have them vote "yes" just to help pass the budget. I'm not sure how things are funded in Chicago, but in my Catholic school, I had to move all of my furniture too. What a mess! I'll be doing more of that tomorrow!

I love the layout, what cute photographs of Jack!

Similar issue we had in our Texas, Pennsylvania and Virginia schools for years. As a parent, we had a list to supplie the classroom twice a year including a certain number of toilet paper rolls. (with toilet paper)
